1st Place | Redesign of the Town Square in Hellmonsödt: A Vibrant Center with a Nature-Oriented Character

How do you create a town square that blends harmoniously into its existing surroundings while also serving as a lively center for the community?

In 2024, we were invited to participate in a competition for the market town of Hellmonsödt (Upper Austria) – and our concept was awarded 1st place. A project we still look back on with great pride.

The close integration of traffic planning and architectural design enabled a realistic, functional, and identity-forming overall concept that convinced the jury. The redesign creates an inviting center for all generations – offering a high quality of stay in the heart of the community, without altering the defining character of the townscape.

A fully accessible, level design without curbs ensures safety and openness. The covered stage, clearly oriented toward the church, strengthens its role as an urban anchor. Nature-oriented green spaces with robust, native plants, the preservation of existing trees, and the use of regional materials such as wood and granite shape a durable, identity-defining atmosphere.
