A Place for the Future of Possibilities: The New Canon Headquarters in Vienna
More than just a workplace: The new Canon Austria & Canon CEE Headquarters in Vienna embodies the harmony of technology, design, and humanity. In an environment that fosters exchange, collaboration, and inspiration, Canon’s spirit of innovation is palpable.
“With the Customer Experience Zone and the Modern Working Lounge, we have created spaces that invite both employees and clients to engage with the Canon brand in an interactive way.”
Dawit Kassaw | Project Manager, PLANET architects
Inspired by Canon’s imaging product portfolio, the architectural concept of framing and layering runs as a leitmotif throughout the design. Frame shapes structure the space and direct the view, while double-sided printed triangular panels reveal new perspectives depending on the angle.
Drawing on Canon’s innovative printing technologies, the layering approach subtly weaves through various design levels, including images, graphics, and text, making the brand’s versatility a spatial experience.
The Modern Working Lounge combines flexibility and functionality. Different configurations allow the space to adapt seamlessly, from informal meetings to larger events. In the Production Zone, grid elements and the presentation of print samples illustrate Canon’s expertise in printing technology.
This area complements the Customer Experience Zone, where Canon’s product world and technologies are presented interactively. Visitors can experience Canon’s innovation firsthand. Adjacent to this, the Canon Gallery showcases works by Canon photographers, creating a bridge between technology and artistry.
Soft Lines and Warm Materials: A Design Inviting Discovery
The architecture reflects Canon’s pioneering role in introducing rounded camera body designs. Soft lines and curved elements create seamless transitions between areas, lending the headquarters an inviting atmosphere. Inspired by traditional Japanese architecture, warm wood finishes and subtle color gradients connect the reception area with the Customer Experience Zone. Numerous plants enhance the welcoming environment further.
Inspired by the CMYK color palette of Canon’s printing technology, a carefully crafted color concept provides structure and orientation. Each department is assigned a specific color, reflected in furniture and carpets. This system breaks up monotone surfaces, offering intuitive clarity and wayfinding. Meeting rooms named after Canon’s international locations emphasize the company’s global identity. Graphic details and imagery interrupt long corridors, introducing variation and visual interest.
With its new headquarters, Canon makes a bold statement of innovation and brand identity.
“At its core, this headquarters represents the connection between technology and humanity. It is a place of encounter and inspiration—a space for the future of possibilities.”
